LEGATO TONGUE AND LEGATO PLAYING

Legato Tongue is a soft articulation used by trombone players to play slurred, or legato, passages.  While the other wind instruments perform slurs by adding keys or depressing valves, trombonists  change notes by using the hand slide, which produces a glissando instead of a slur.  This legato tongue allows us, with practice, to play as smoothly as our colleagues.

- My Video on this topic

The video explains the various ways to play legato; however, there needs to be a way to practice that new technique.  Below the video is a link that will open up a PDF in a new window, to save or print:

- A collection of simple tunes, titled Legato Tunes, that gives the young trombonist a way to practice playing slurs.
