Legato Tongue is a soft articulation used by trombone players to play slurred, or legato, passages.  While the other wind instruments perform slurs by adding keys or depressing valves, trombonists  change notes by using the hand slide, which produces a glissando instead of a slur.  This legato tongue allows us, with practice, to play as smoothly as our colleagues.
